He stayed connected without busting his travel budget. Here's how: "On my recent trip to Japan I had a chance to try out the XCOM card for both data and voice calling. I used it everywhere: in my hotel room, outdoors, in meeting rooms, in restaurants, and on the train. It worked flawlessly, connecting within a few seconds of turning it on. While its 3G data speed was less than the maximum possible -- it varied from about 20 kbps to about 300kbps -- it was faster than the hotel's WiFi, which cost $22 per day.
